In my years of working in school, it has become evident that technology is important to an education today. Just like cell phones, which were once only for those with more income, are now an assumed part of a teenager’s arsenal, so is being “up to date” on technology in the classroom. As much as I appreciate and integrate technology in my teaching, I doubt if the next generation of students will ever say, “The best thing I remember about my education is my ability to upload a video for a group project and have it go viral, well some might.
Teachers, face to face experiences, help remind us that we are human, we live and work in communities and have personal interactions that stay with us for life. That is one of the reasons why many enter the vocation of teaching, to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
We need teachers, we use technology but the goal is the same, helping students be successful at learning.
